Effects of Different Seeding Time and Harvesting of Immature Fruits at Early Period in Growing Season on Growth , Flowering and Yield in Red Pepper

Abstract
This study was performed to obtain knowledge for getting the higher yield in red pepper. For this purpose; two varieties of 2640 of medium maturity and 2520 of late maturity were seeded on February 25 and March 25 on hot toed and on April 20 on cold bed. Seedlings, after raising for 75, 65 and 55 days, respectively, were transplanted in pots of 18cm in diameter. They were classified in three treatments, A) pinching out flowers opened every day, B) harvesting the immature green fruits by August 7 and after this the mature red fruits, C) harvesting the mature red fruits through the growing season, and were investigated growth, flowering and yield by individuals in each treatment. The results obtained are summarized as fellows:
1) The days from seeding to flowering were decreased with delaying the seeding time. It was apparent in late maturity variety.
2) In a growing season, three flowering cycles were shown in 2640, but two cycles in 2520, regardless of the different seeding time.
3) Number of flowers was increased in earlier seeding time than in later seeding time, and was highest in treatment A and next treatment B and C in order. The highest number of flower with the earlier seeding times in first flowering cycles was shown more early in treatment B and C, but in treatment A was shown at relatively same dale. That in second or third flowering cycle was appeared at nearly same date regardless of the different seeding date.
4) The length of main branch was apparently elongated in treatment A, and inhibited badly in treatment C. Number of nodes in main branch was highest in treatment A and next were treatment B and C in order.
5) The total yields were increased in treatment B but the mature red fruit yields were higher in treatment C.
6) From the results, it is necessary to harvest the immature green fruity in early period of growing season in order to get the higher yields. However it will be more profitable to harvest the red fruit without harvesting the green fruits in early period of growing season in case of later seeding when there are no differences between total yields of treatment B and the mature red fruits yields of treatment C. But the studies on the determination of the critical date of early harvest of immature fruits for obtaining of good yield of both the immature and mature fruits will be made.
